On Wednesday, January 24, 2018 another man charged for murder of a small child, this time a newborn baby girl. Zachery Littell, 25 of Denise Drive in Jacksonville, NC was charged with an open count of murder for the death of his seven-week old newborn daughter, Harper Littell.
Reports tell that a call was dispatched to The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office responded to the residence on Wednesday, January 3rd in regards to a child who wasn’t breathing. EMS was already present treating seven-week old infant child Harper Littell. The infant child was transported to Onslow Memorial Hospital and transported to Vidant Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead on January 5th following two days of being on life support.
Newborn baby Harper’s head was observed and noted as swollen on both sides as well as bruises in the back of her head and around her mouth.
Upon completion of an autopsy, findings by the medical examiner found the cause to be blunt force trauma to the head.
From these findings, the death was ruled as a homicide.
The father, Zachery Littel described what happened to investigators as a fall from a portable bath baby bath tub when he left her unattended. However, they soon found injuries were not consistent with his description.
Littell is currently being held in the OCSDC without bond! Littell’s first appearance was scheduled this morning.
