Update – Crash Investigation

Arrest made after Pedestrian Struck on Henderson Drive (posted 12-18-18)

Jacksonville Police Department has made an arrest in conjunction with the investigation a traffic crash that occurred at 6:50 this morning on Henderson Drive in the vicinity of Jacksonville High School in which a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle that left the scene. Officers quickly located the vehicle and apprehended the driver.

The preliminary investigation has found that Tasia Da-ne White, 31, of Jacksonville, was driving a 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage when she struck a pedestrian, a 16-year old student at Jacksonville High School. White did not stop to report the crash and left the area. The pedestrian was airlifted with serious but not life-threatening injuries. White’s charges and bond are detailed below.

Police Chief Mike Yaniero urges caution in school zones as they remain a place where drivers should be on the alert each school day. “The Jacksonville Police Traffic Division has been conducting proactive traffic enforcement between the two school zones, focusing speeding violators.” said Chief Yaniero. This enforcement effort began shortly after Thanksgiving when school resumed classes. Between November 26 the December 7th, officers issued 136 citations for speeding. These included 72 Speeding in a School Zone citations. Speeding in a school zone carries a fine of $250 and court costs at a minimum of $188.

“The focused enforcement and improved pedestrian crossing have resulted in greater safety for the students, but drivers have a responsibility to obey the posted speed limits and traffic regulations.” said Chief Yaniero. As is customary, a review will be made of the crossing.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer William Hollis, JPD Traffic Division, at 910-938-6435 or whollis@jacksonvillenc.gov or citizens may call Crime Stoppers at 910-938-3273 with information.
