A man wanted on numerous charges has been arrested by Onslow County Sheriff’s Office.
On Jan. 7, 2019, members of the Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit developed information that Cruz Costilla Abney, a wanted fugitive, had returned to the area. On Jan. 8th the Drug Enforcement Unit located Abney traveling on Gum Branch Road and conducted a traffic stop. Abney resisted and after a brief struggle, was taken into custody. Abney ingested narcotics during the incident and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Several readers contacted The Onslow Beat inquiring in concern as they were in the area and shared their observations as the apprehension at the intersection of Gumbranch and Western Blvd took place. Video of the scene:

Abney, 29-years-old of Hadley Collins Road in Maysville was transported to the magistrate’s office and charged with the following:
- Felony Parole Violation
- Misdemeanor Larceny
- Misdemeanor Assault on a Female
- Felony Flee/Elude Law Enforcement Officer
- Misdemeanor Resist/Obstruct/Delay a Law Enforcement Officer
- Careless and Reckless Driving, Endangering Others
He is currently in the Onslow County Detention Center under no bond.
Aubrey Alissa Lacapria, 32-years-old of Parnell Road in Hubert was operating the vehicle Abney was in. She was also arrested, taken before the magistrate and charged with:
- Felony Possession Cocaine
- Felony Conspiracy
- Misdemeanor Possession Drug Paraphernalia
Her bond was set at $2,000 secured. Their first court appearance was scheduled for January 8, 2019.
This is an ongoing investigation and additional drug related charges are pending.
