A Hubert man has been arrested on several charges for his involvement in a break-in.
On December 11, 2018, Onslow County Sheriff’s Office uniform patrol deputies responded to the Belgrade Express Mart located at 7484 New Bern Hwy for a report of a break-in to the business.
Among items stolen from the business was a safe which contained cash and checks. Investigation revealed that Joshua Bernard Mays fraudulently cashed some of the stolen checks at a local bank. Upon further investigation detectives charged Mays with the break-in.
Mays, 30-years-old of Crown Point Road in Hubert, was arrested January 14, 2019, taken before a magistrate and charged with:
- Felony Breaking and Entering
- Felony Larceny
- Felony Possession of Stolen Goods
- Felony Safecracking
- Felony Conspiracy
- (3) Counts Felony Obtain Property by False Pretense
- (3) Counts Felony Forgery of an Instrument
- (3) Counts Uttering a Forged Instrument
Mays was transported to the Onslow County Detention Center under a $25,000 secured bond.
Surveillance video from the business revealed that there were two suspects that broke into the store and sheriff’s detectives are still investigating to identify the second suspect.
