Remains of a Robeson Co. woman missing since last July identified
Robeson Co. Sheriff’s Office confirmed and released the identity of remains found last month as a woman who went missing last Independence Day. The skeletal remains located on Feb. 27, 2019 near the railroad tracks along railroad tracks near Barker Ten Mile Road and Powersville Road just outside of Lumberton have been identified as Susan Dial McGirt. McGirt, 55, of 600 Mount Moriah Church Rd., Lumberton who has been missing since July 4, 2018. McGirt was last seen walking away from her assisted living facility, Covenant Care Center, heading toward I-95.
A Silver Alert was issued after McGirt went missing from the facility as a missing/endangered woman. This Silver Alert was cancelled by the N.C. Department of Public Safety at the request of the Robeson County Sheriffs Office Oct. 15, 2018 at 11:03am.
McGirt was last seen in a floral night gown and pink pajamas on the night of her disappearance.
A cause of death has not been determined by the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office.
