Bus accident on the last day of school fortunately left no injuries

After a long year of recovery after Hurricane Florence, much excitement and anticipation from teachers, faculty members, students and families of Onslow County Schools the last day just couldn’t go down in the books without a minor bump in the road.

There was an accident involving a school bus Friday morning near the intersection of Foscue and Northwoods Drive. The bus was transporting students to Northwoods Park Middle School and hit a parked vehicle in transport.

Brent Anderson, Chief Communications Officer for Onslow County Schools said, “There were 41 students on board at the time and there were no injuries. Students were moved to another bus and taken to school, with two being picked up by their parents at the scene.”

Accident involving a Head Start school bus this morning at an intersection of Cow Horn Road

At approximately 7:00 a.m. on May 2, 2019, Head Start Bus 8616 was involved in an accident at the intersection of Cow Horn Road and Comfort Highway. District transportation staff and EMS were immediately notified and responded to the scene. There were two students on board the bus at the time of the accident. They were evaluated on site by first responders and then released to their parents.

Parents of students who had not already been picked up were also notified, and a bus was dispatched to finish the route.

There have been no known injuries reported at this time.
